An early collection of short stories from Lauren Groff, which demonstrates amply both her talent and her versatility as a writer. The nine stories in this collection embrace a variety of styles, periods of history, and perspectives. The majority (seven out of nine in the collection) could be considered as successors to. Interestingly, “Lucky Chow Fun” is set in the same fictitious town (Templeton) as her first novel. I rated “L DeBard and Aliette” and “Blythe” particularly in this collection. Throughout Groff shows a dexterity in text, confidence in writing, and fun; someone who is good at what they do and knows it. 8/10.
